What's the difference between a blog post and an essay and a newsletter?
Blog - quick offhand log of stuff. Could be a fun video with commentary or an offcolor joke or maybe a random idea i might have.
Essay - more durable, complete thoughts that should stand the test of time. people link to essays on their blogs and in their newsletters. Essays are influential, and years down the road, people can point to an essay and say "that changed the world".
Newsletter - ephermeral. more place and time. it's "the news" as a letter. it should be more of a commentary on recent happenings, both in my world and the world beyond.
This is my newsletter. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My newsletter is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
Without me, my newsletter is useless. Without my newsletter, I am useless. I must send my newsletter true.
Every week I will send my newsletter. Rain or shine. Blah or blah. It will be representative of the place and the time of which it is sent.
It will evolve over time, just as I will evolve over time.
Like me, it will not be perfect or polished or ready for mass consumption. It will contain typos and poor grammar and possibly incomplete thoughts. At times, it may even be wrong.
It will capture the moment in ways that a blog post or an essay couldn't imagine.
It's unlikely that anyone will ever link to one of my newsletters, or that a single newsletter will move mountains. We save that status for well-researched essays, the stuff that has rigor.
